1. Season opening, working hours during each season

DPC Kalpitiya operates daily 9:30 am - 6:30 pm through out the windy seasons: 
1 May - 15 October & 15 December - 15 March

2. Necessary level of experience on a spot (beginner, intermediate, pro)

Although a rescue boat is always with us, upwind riding skills are necessary to enjoy kiting at Navy Point, Mini Vella and Vella Island and our Home Spot. The Lagoon Spot and Dream Spot can be enjoyed by riders of all levels.

5. Minimal and maximal number of participants in one group for lessons?

Maximum of 2 students per group

6. Certificates?

Our school and instructors work under IKO guidelines and you will be certified online after completing the lessons.

7. Can my child take kiteboarding lessons?

Yes, if your child is over 13 years old and weighs +35kg. Please note that our instructors have the right to stop a lesson at any time if they feel that the child is not absorbing information and the situation is unsafe.

Equipment

8. Equipment rental?

Our rental kites are all from the Duotone Kiteboarding SLS and D/LAB line. These can be paired with a variety of twintips, directional boards and foil boards from Duotone.

9. Repair of equipment?

This is a service that we outsource, and we are happy to help you with the repair of your equipment as well if you need it.

10. Compressor (for kite pumping)?

We don't have a compressor, but we have the normal pumps.

11. Equipment storage place?

A shared storage and drying area is available at the center free of charge.

Facilities

13. Possibility of washing and drying equipment (Kites, Bars, Wetsuit/shorts etc.)?

We have a storage area where you can wash and hang your gear to dry.

14. Bar/Food at the center

When you stay at The Rascals, the restaurant serves wholesome meals made from scratch with carefully sourced ingredients, and the option of full board includes a continental breakfast, a light lunch that can be eaten on site or packed for the beach, and an Italian-style dinner. The restaurant and bar is an après-kite hangout.

Booking

15. How can I pay?

At the center we accept cash (EUR, USD, LKR) and card payments (+3% bank charges). You will need some cash in LKR if you plan to move around. ATM's are available in Kalpitiya Town, 10 minutes by Tuktuk from DPC Kalpitiya.

16. Can I cancel my booking?

Free cancellation is offered 1 week prior to lesson.

17. Can my friend/partner use my rented gear as well?

Gear rental is personal and cannot be shared between two people. We will advise you on the gear you need for the conditions and allow changes in kite/board size throughout the day if conditions change.

18. Can I book/pay directly in the center?

Yes, we accept cash (EUR, USD, LKR) and card payments (3% bank charges). 

19. Can I pay over the phone by using a credit card?

No. Advance payments are made by bank transfer.

Insurance

20. Do you offer insurance for the gear?

No, we don't.

21. What happens if I damage the equipment?

The cost of repair and devaluation of the equipment, if any, shall be borne by the rider.

22. Is the equipment insured?

There is no insurance on the equipment and all rentals are made in agreement with the waiver form.

Weather

23. What is the best wind forecast?

For the forecasts here we use the Windy Pro app to compare them, as there are so many forecasts, none of them very reliable and often quite different.

24. Do you have a live weather station?

Not yet.

25. Do you have a webcam

No, we don't have a webcam. 

Travel information

26. Do I need a visa in Sri Lanka?

Yes. The process is quite simple and a 30 day tourist visa can be obtained online at www.eta.gov.lk. If you do not have your visa upon arrival, you can also get one at the airport (costs a bit more).

27. How do I get from the airport to DPC Kalpitiya?

The trip takes about 3 hours and we recommend that you take a taxi from one of the counters at the airport or book one with us in advance (advisable if you are traveling at night).

28. Is it advisable to travel solo as a girl?

Without leaving out a bit of common sense, Sri Lanka is a safe and pleasant country for a girl to travel alone.

29. Is it recommend to visit Kalpitiya as a solo kitesurfer?

At DPC Kalpitiya we look after each other on and off the water. The team will show you the spots, help you launch and land, and keep an eye on you while you are on the water. With most of our guests spending the kite day together, ending it with après-kite and communal dinners, it is a natural place for travelers to connect.

Others

30. Do I need to bring a wetsuit and harness?

No, but you may need a lycra and other sun protection. If you have forgotten these, you will find lycras, hats, sunscreen and other essentials in our kite shop.
If you have a personal harness, we recommend that you bring it with you.

31. First aid/medical help/safety?

There is a first aid box at the center and on the beach.

32. Equipment shop?

Our kite shop offers new and used equipment in good condition from Duotone Kiteboarding.

33. Internet?

Free Wifi is available at the kite school and all partner accommodations.

34. What can I do in Kalpitiya besides kitesurfing?

Yoga (private or group classes) and massages are available daily at our center. Kayaks, SUP and table tennis are also available (free of charge). If you are here during our winter months, Kalpitiya offers scuba diving and dolphin watching. These are services that we outsource to local operators, but we are happy to help you organize them.

35. What can I do on a day trip from Kalpitiya?

Wilpattu National Park, the ancient city of Anuradhapura, the Lions Rock of Sigiriya are examples of Sri Lanka's rich nature and culture and can be visited in half or full day trips from the center. If you would like to organize a longer tour, we will be happy to give you our best tips and put you in touch with our favorite drivers.
